City donating fire truck to city in Dominican Republic

Mayor Bill Finch and Fire Chief Brian Rooney will turn over the keys to a decommissioned fire department pumper truck the city is donating to the town of Juma Bejucal, Bonao in the Dominican Republic on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Through the efforts of the Rev. Simon Castillo, fire department chaplain, the fire truck, a 1986 Hahn pumper truck, will be shipped to the island for use by the fire department.

The mayor and the fire chief will turn over the truck to the secretary of the interior of the Dominican Republic, and the leaders of Monsenor Nouel Province and representatives of the Juma Bejucal, Bonao fire department.

The mayor, assisted by representatives from the Dominican Republic, will raise the Dominican Republic flag at City Hall.

Finch; Rooney; Police Chief Joseph Gaudett; Castillo, fire department chaplain; Jose Ramon Fadul, secretary of the interior of the Dominican Republic, and representatives of the Monsenor Nouel province and the town of Juma Bejucal, Bonao fire departments.
