Gas, booze and phones top Dominican Republic’s tax revenue

Three of the country’s 10 top companies which manufacture refined petroleum products and four liquor and tobacco producers account for 78% of the taxes on consumption paid to the Internal Taxes Agency (DGII), while two telecoms, three banks and a power company pay 80% of the taxes on income.

The data figure in the “Ranking of companies 2011” by the DGII, which reveals the main companies based on the taxes to consumption and on income paid to the Treasury.

The Dominican Petroleum Refinery, the Dominican National Brewery and the Dominican Telephone Company (Claro) top the list of the top 10 companies, followed by Brugal, Tobacco Leon Jimenes, Coastal Petroleum, Orange Dominicana, Banco Popular, Esso Standard Oil, and Ambev Dominicana.
