Travel to Caribbean set to Grow

The Ministry of Tourism for the Dominican republic have been celebrating record visitor figures for last year. They had a record amount of over four million visitors which was a 3.3 percent increase on the year before. Jamaica reported that they had an 11 percent increase in visitors in November 2010 compared to the year before. With BA revealing three Caribbean destinations in their top 10 for 2011, it certainly seems like this area is set to grow.

This is great news for the area because the area is very much dependent on tourism with seven out of ten of the World Tourist Organisations listed countries most dependent on tourism being form the Caribbean. The area has plenty to offer visitors and so it is somewhere that everyone should consider visiting.

There are a whole selection of new hotels and resorts planned for the area with the most expensive being the Baha Mar which will be finished in 2014 and cost $3.4 billion and is the largest resort development ever to have been built in the area. It will employ 8,000 people and is expected to add $1 billion to the local economy in its first year. However, if you cannot wiat that long then it is worth knowing that there are many finished new developments too such as newly refurbished St Croix Carambola Beach Resort in the US Virgin Islands and Sandals resorts are enhancing their Jamaica resort. There are also new flights planned in to the area with many airlines providing more options and routes to get the the area.
