Big business leader hails power plant’s conversions to natural gas

he head of the organization that groups Dominican Republic’s business leaders (Copardom) called the planned construction of a gas pipeline to convert the plant of the San Pedro power company CESPM, formerly Cogentrix to natural gas, “a significant step.”

Marisol Vicens said the initiative, jointly with the push to penalize energy theft is a first step in the process to transform the State’s power sector, in adherence to the legislation on electricity and the Public Company Reform Law.

The CESPM plant’s conversion to natural gas forms part of the State-owned Power Companies’ (CDEEE) goal for 2011, of producing 50% of the energy with that fuel.

The business leader issued those declarations to the being interviewed in Hoy Mismo Channel 9, affirmed that CDEEE CEO Celso Marranzini has instilled  credibility and confidence in the sector, among the electricity market’s agents as well as international agencies. She said Marranzini also lowered costs and bureaucracy, reaching more efficiency in the distributing companies, as well as implementing efficient and organized payment formulas.
